Jamaican Independence Day is celebrated

On August 6, 1962, Jamaican Independence Day was first celebrated in Jamaica, to commemorate their independence from the United Kingdom.

The Jamaica Independence Act was officially passed by the United Kingdom Parliament on July 19, 1962. However the Jamaica flag was flown for the first time in August 1962.
