Jackie Joyner-Kersee becomes the first woman to win consecutive gold medals in the heptathlon

On August 2, 1992, Jackie Joyner-Kersee made history as the first woman to ever win consecutive Olympic gold medals in the heptathlon.

Joyner-Kersee was born in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1962. She earned higher education from UCLA before pursuing a professional track career. Before retiring in 1998, she earned a total of three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
