Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win 3 gold medals at the same Olympic game, died in 1994

On November 12, 1994, Wilma Rudolph died. Wilma Rudolph was the first American woman to win 3 gold medals in track and field at the same Olympic game. She earned the title of ‘the first woman in the world.’ Her alma mater, Tennessee State University named its indoor track in her honor.

Charlie Sifford became the first African American to win a major professional golf tournament in 1957
