May 3
On May 3, 1968, the Black Student Sit-In took place at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
In 1968, black students at Northwestern University took control of Bursar’s Office and orchestrated a monumental sit-in. The demands were presented to the administration by the Afro-American Student Union president. The demands included increasing financial aid, adding African American history curriculum, and increasing the enrollment by black students.
After nearly 2 days, the sit-in ended after the administration agreed to some of the demands.
