On December 10, 1950, Ralph Bunche became the first African American to win a Nobel Peace Prize. 

He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to escalate tensions between Israel and Arab nations. 

Ralph Bunche died in 1971. He was 67 years old.
