On November 3, 1992, Carol Moseley Braun made history as the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. 

She served as a U.S Senator from 1993-1999.

Carol Moseley Braun gained higher education from the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago. After gaining higher education, Braun started a career in public service and politics. Braun began her political career in Illinois, where she broke through color barriers along the way.
