On December 19, 1875, influential historian Carter G. Woodson was born.
Carter G. Woodson gained higher education from the University of Chicago and Harvard University. He was just the second person to earn a Phd from Harvard University. W.E.B. DuBois was the first.
Early on in his life Woodson developed a passion for black history. He cemented his legacy by creating black institutions that sought to educate black people and preserve black history. In 1915, he founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. Shortly after, he published the Journal of Negro History, which still exists today. His most notable accomplishment is architecting the idea of Black History Month (1926).
Carter G. Woodson died in 1950 at the age of 74.
