On January 27, 1972, Mahalia Jackson died. 

Mahalia Jackson was a famous gospel singer during the early 1900s. Jackson used her talents to participate in the civil rights movement. She worked alongside influential civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
