On January 2, 1915, John Hope Franklin was born. 

John Hope Franklin is a renowned historian and educator. He has conducted several impactful studies on African American history.

John Hope Franklin gained higher education from Fisk University and Harvard University. At Harvard University, he earned a Ph.D. After earning higher education he went on to start a career as an influential figure in American history. In the 1940s John Hope Franklin started conducting several impactful studies and publishing essays on African American history. 

For his work, he was chosen to lead several historical institutions including the American Studies Association, the Southern Historical Association, and the American Historical Association. Franklin used his expertise to educate the next generation as a professor at several prestigious institutions including Fisk University, Howard University, and Duke University.  

Over the years John Hope Franklin has received many accolades and awards for his work and contributions to history. In 1995, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
