On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama was elected as the first African American president of the U.S.

In 2008, Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States of America when he defeated John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009. In 2012, he was re-elected as President after defeating the Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Barack Obama served two terms from 2008-2016.
