In 1955, Charlie Brackins made his NFL debut with the Green Bay Packers, becoming the first HBCU alumni to play quarterback in the NFL. Brackins attended Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) where he had a historical collegiate football career. In 1955, he graduated from PVAMU and declared for the NFL draft. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the same year.
When he was drafted into the NFL, Brackins joined a short list of Black NFL quarterbacks.
